Family: David Gardner (husband), Ellie and Ty (children) Years in the Golden Isles: Since I was born in 1970 School: Columbus State University What is your favorite thing to do in the Golden Isles: One of my favorite things to do is to fill our boat with friends and family and spend the day on a secluded beach! Just getting on the water and stepping onto the sand are both so relaxing and I love breathing in the salt air and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the place we’re so lucky to call home. Who or what inspired you to become a Realtor: I was very blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, and when our children were both of school age I found myself volunteering to the point that the time equaled that of a full time job. Although it was very fulfilling and I enjoyed it a lot, I decided to go to work and put those hours toward the bottom line for my family. I took the class, had lunch with my Realtor Bill Keim, who became an incredible mentor to me, and I’ve been fortunate to be able to learn from and work full time with him now for 15-plus years! Favorite causes you support and why: I love what the St. Simons Land Trust has been able to do to protect and preserve so many areas on our precious island which will be able to be enjoyed for generations to come! I love driving this beautiful island and introducing newcomers to this special place and I know it would not be what it is today without the admirable work of the land trust. Also, because we’ve been touched by cancer and have lost so many loved ones, the American Cancer Society is near and dear to me. The research they are doing and support is vital to finding a cure while also helping patients and caregivers experience quality of life during treatment and beyond through the services they offer free of charge. Favorite landmark in the Golden Isles: The pier village, hands down! From walking the pier to see what the fishermen and crabbers have caught, to enjoying music on the lawn at the lighthouse during the summer series, I just can’t get enough. It represents our home and spreads that island vibe to locals and visitors alike!

A local you admire: I could name a dozen, really! Since you just asked for one, that person for me today is Jay Wiggins who is the director of the Glynn County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency. His dedication to Glynn County, especially during Hurricanes Irma and Matthew, is evident to all and his ability to guide our residents through never before seen circumstances while not creating panic is very admirable. Jay does much more than storm management and what really touches me are those moments behind the scenes when a family is experiencing a storm of their own and he is faced with the difficult and sad job of recovering a missing family member who was a victim on the water or the like. His ability to do his job while also providing comfort and care for the victim’s families as well as the community is incredible. If you’re lucky enough to know this man and his huge heart, then you know how lucky our community is to have him in this position. I, for one, feel like we are in very capable hands!
