Who or what inspired you to become a Realtor: My dad. He was always looking at homes and taught me how to see the potential to add value. He instilled a great love of real estate and insights into the investment side of home ownership. The person who finally pushed me to get into the business, was my dear friend Frank Cerrato, who asked me at a dinner party “why don’t you get your license already?” That struck a chord and I never looked back.
A local you admire: Chef Matthew Raiford. His family’s history in our community dates back to 1874. His commitment to the family’s Gilliard Farm, entrepreneurial spirit and heart of giving embodies what this community is all about, taking care of each other. He’s a local treasure.
Favorite landmark in the Golden Isles: Old Town Brunswick. I love the Victorian homes, the local businesses and the hometown charm. There’s a great sense of community and if you visit an establishment more than a couple of times, you’re instantly a “regular.”
What advice would you give to someone looking to buy a home in the Golden Isles? Hire an agent with the heart of a teacher, decide where you want to live, buy below your means and don’t be afraid of a fixer-upper.
Describe a perfect Saturday for you in the Golden Isles: Bike riding Jekyll’s maritime forest trails, stopping at the beach for a seaside picnic, then capping off the day with a cocktail at sunset on the porch of the Jekyll Island Club Resort.
What brought you to the Golden Isles? I visited with my family as a child, but what brought us back as adults was the shrimp! Literally — the first Shrimp and Grits Festival on Jekyll. We fell in love with the area and what started as a once a year visit, grew to five and six times a year until we decided to make Jekyll Island our full time home.
What is a selling point for buying a home in the Golden Isles? Location! You buy into a lifestyle, not just a neighborhood. The Golden Isles are perfectly positioned between Savannah and Jacksonville, has an airport with free parking, some of the most accessible beaches in the State of Georgia, and you can’t beat southern food and hospitality. We have a little something for everyone.
