Occupation: Associate broker, co-owner Signature Properties Group Inc.
Who or what inspired you to become a Realtor: I worked in banking in Atlanta for over 11 years. My last job was working as a trust fund administrator. I loved both the investing of money for the clients but also reviewing and interpretation of the legal documents. When we moved to St. Simons, I needed to find a job. I knew I was a hard worker so I decided to open my own business. I looked at several options and decided real estate was the perfect fit for me. When I first started in real estate, I did not know how much I would love the field and what I do. I get to work with clients on the largest investment of their life. I educate my clients on the local market and the buying and selling process. This is so when my clients make decisions, they are educated on the pluses and minuses and their options and are comfortable with the choices they are making.
Describe a perfect Saturday for you in the Golden Isles: I play tennis on Saturday mornings with the same group of women each week. After tennis we would all go to brunch. Then home and to the beach with my husband for the afternoon. That evening we would have friends over to cook-out on the grill. It doesn’t get much better than that!
A local you admire: Mary Jo Prater. Not only is Mary Jo a dear friend of mine, she is also my business partner. We have known each other for years through our children. We have children who were in the same grade at school and they were good friends. When Mary Jo bought out one of the original owners of Signature Properties Group, I had no idea what a good fit we would be for business partners. We bought out the third owner of Signature three years ago, so now it is just us. Mary Jo is fabulous with our agents and with her clients. She always has a smile on her face and can handle any situation with grace and ease!
What is a selling point for buying a home in the Golden Isles? St. Simons Island is a wonderful place to live. I have not found any other place like it. We have fabulous restaurants and shopping, not to mention all the outdoor activities that we can enjoy pretty much year-round. The people on St. Simons are so friendly and welcoming, it makes it easy for newcomers to make new friends.
Favorite landmark in the Golden Isles: St. Simons Lighthouse. I love seeing how people lived in another time and that is exactly what the lighthouse provides. It is also fun, and good exercise, to climb the tower and enjoy the beautiful view from the top!
