Name: Elizabeth Zachry
Years in the Golden Isles: 46
School: I studied business at Valdosta State University.
Occupation: Interior designer at Taylor House Interiors
Tell us a little bit about your career path: I’ve been an interior designer at Taylor House Interiors for almost five years. I started off designing the showroom floor and it’s still one of my favorite things to do! I get to work with amazing clients everyday, and some of them have become like family. It’s the best feeling to have a connection with a person and really get a feel for the environment they want to live in.
Tell us about how you ended up in the Golden Isles: The shrimping industry brought my family to Jekyll Island in 1975. Jekyll is one of my favorite places! It was such a magical place to grow up! You can see the sunrise on the beach in the morning and the sunset in the evening on the river.
Favorite landmark in the Golden Isles: The beaches of Jekyll Island.
Who or what influenced you to become an interior designer?
My father’s side of the family owned Zachry’s furniture for decades. I’ve always loved beautiful furniture and lovely finished rooms. I suppose it’s just in my blood! My all-time favorite designer is Bill Baldwin as well.
How would you describe your design style?
I would say my personal style is eclectic. I love working with patterns and texture and adding an organic element. In my home, I love to incorporate things that mean something to me, some of the unexpected and always a touch of humor. I think that’s what my clients love. I want their home to reflect who they are and not just a replica of a magazine photo.
