Looking for volunteer work? Many area organizations use volunteers in a multitude of ways, from directly working with the populations they serve, to performing administrative work and other duties. This list is by no means exhaustive, but the agencies listed always have a need for willing workers.

• SOAR (Social Activities through Active Recreation). Contact through website at soargoldenisles.com. The agency works with individuals with developmental disabilities in Glynn and McIntosh counties by providing athletic, social and recreational activities for them.

• Southeast Georgia Health System Volunteer Services, 2415 Parkwood Drive, Brunswick. 912-466-7000. Volunteers are used in guest services, the gift shop and areas throughout the hospital.

• Special Olympics, 912-554-7780. A program to encourage recreation among intellectually and physically challenged young people.

• Star Foundation, 1612 Newcastle St., Suite 105, Brunswick. 912-554-0540. Provides career training, including counseling participants on professional appearance, financial literacy and other matters. Volunteers are welcome.

• St. Simons Land Trust, 1810 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island. 912-638-9109. This organization protects and preserves greenspace on St. Simons Island. Volunteers are needed in an array of capacities.
