Due to the world-wide pandemic, many area residents find themselves spending much more idle time at home. Hospice of the Golden Isles (HGI) Volunteer Coordinator, Trish Burns, thinks this is the perfect time to orient and onboard new volunteers who must complete online training and background checks before becoming HGI volunteers.

Although volunteers may not visit patients during the current healthcare crisis, when HGI is given the green light to do so, administrative volunteers, to make calls and help with correspondence, as well as music therapy and pet therapy volunteers, will be needed.

“This is our opportunity to reinforce our volunteer base and to have everyone trained and ready once we are able to have volunteers back at the Hospice House and in patients’ homes,” said Burns.
