Golden Isles Arts & Humanities will host The Bard Bus, from Apex Theatre Studio, in Jacksonville, Fla., at 7:30 p.m. July 18 at the Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle St., in Brunswick. This year, the troupe will present a fun, family-friendly 80-minute, fast-paced version of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The actors will present a high-energy version of a romantic rave, complete with music, magic, puppetry and clowning. “For me, the play explores the games we all play to give and receive love in its many forms,” said Raines Carr, artistic director for the production. In July 2018, the Bard Bus rolled into town with a witty version of “As You Like It” that the audience thoroughly enjoyed.

For young artists between the ages of 8-14 The Apex Theatre Studio Inc. is the only training program in Northeast Florida which provides a training program specifically for intermediate to advanced level theatre students through challenging interactions with an expert faculty, a range of programming and a commitment to excellence.

“We have been working for the past two years to develop a group of young artists who were excited to perform Shakespeare in all sorts of settings traveling aboard “The Bard Bus.” Now in our second year, folks will see this rowdy crew performing indoors and outdoors for all sizes and ages of audiences,” said Ian Mairs, managing director for Apex Theatre Studio.Carr, the play’s director, has a special place in his heart for the Bard. “A visiting actor came to my high school and performed a monologue from Shakespeare’s plays and I was hooked,” added Carr, who teachers acting and camera acting techniques at the studio.

Tickets for the performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the Ritz Theatre, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, or by calling 912-262-6934.
