Exhibit of the paintings of Catherine Hillis and woodwork and basketry of Mary and Craig Farnsworth will be on display from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends at the Jekyll Island Arts Association, Goodyear Cottage, 321 Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island, through July 31. An opening reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. July 7. Free.

Thursday, July 4

Sea Palms 4th of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. in Great Oaks Park, at Great Oaks and Windward drives, on St. Simons Island. Registration will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade route ends at the Sea Palms Golf Club. Lemonade and hot dogs will be served. There will be prizes for the best decorated bike, wagon and motorized vehicle, patriotic group and best-dressed animal. The public is welcome.

July 4 - July 6

Jekyll Island Fourth of July Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a parade through the National Historic Landmark District, and fireworks over the ocean at 9 p.m. From noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Red, White & Bounce, featuring water slides, bounce houses, sidewalk sales and live music, will be held on the Village Green. The weekend wraps up at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a concert in the Beach Village as part of the Beach Village Music Series. Events are free, but, parking for individual and weekly passes will increase by $4 per vehicle.Annual passes will not be affected.

July 4 -July 7

St. Simons Sunshine Festival will begin at 7 a.m. July 4 with the Sunshine Festival 1-mile fun run, followed at 7:30 a.m. with the 5K race (goldenislestrackclub.com), followed at 2:30 p.m. by the annual golf cart parade. Both the festival race and golf cart parade begin and end at Mallery Park. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. at the pier with music provided by Traveling Riverside Band from 6-9 p.m. and 9:30-10:15 p.m. During the weekend, the St. Simons Island Annual Arts and Crafts Show (soglogallery.com) at Postell Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.

Friday, July 5

First Friday will be held from 5-8 p.m. along Gloucester and Newcastle streets in downtown Brunswick. Enjoy gallery openings, live music, art exhibit openings, food and drink specials and extended store hours. Details: 912-265-4032.

Saturday, July 6

Brunswick Blue Crab Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mary Ross Waterfront Park, in Brunswick. Free admission. Sponsored by Rebuilding Together of Glynn County Georgia and the Environmental Justice Board. Details: 912-342-3671.

Lyn Avenue, a country/Americana act from Savannah, will perform from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Jekyll Island Beach Village as part of the Beach Village Music Series. Free. Beach blankets and chairs welcome.

”Becoming Astrid,” a 2018 Swedish/Danish film, directed by Pemille Fischer Christensen, will be shown at 7 p.m. in the St. Simons Casino Theater, 530 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island, as part of the Literary Guild of St. Simons Island film series. A bio-pic, it centers on the Swedish children’s book author Astrid Lindgren, who wrote “Pippi Longstocking.” Not rated. Free, but a $3 fee is requested to offset costs.

The Funk Brotherhood, a popular Athens party band that features nine musicians, tight vocals, a rhythm section with drums, bass, guitar and keyboard and three-piece horn section, will perform from 7-9 p.m. on the lawn of the St. Simons Lighthouse as part of the “A Little Light Music” series presented by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society. Admission is $15 for adults, and free for children younger than 12. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Museum Store in the A.W. Jones Heritage Center, or at the gate before the concert. Disney’s Mulan Jr. will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 3:30 p.m. Sundays through July 28 at the St. Simons Casino Theater, 530 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island, as part of The Island Players Young People’s Summer Workshop. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students ages 13-17, $8 for children 12 and younger and free for children younger than 2 who do not need a seat. Tickets may be purchased one hour before curtain.
