The Board of Directors and membership of the St. Simons Cotillion recently announced the members of the 2019 Cotillion Debutante Club and the marshals who will serve as their escorts. The formal presentation will take place Nov. 30 at the Plantation Ball on Sea Island. The black-tie event continues the elegant tradition established by the St. Simons Cotillion in 1988.

“The St. Simons Cotillion is delighted to present this outstanding group of young women and the gentlemen chosen as their escorts” stated Mrs. Peter Feininger, who, with Mrs. Patrick Godbey, is the 2019 co-chair of the Debutante Advisory Board. Mrs. Richard Altman serves as advisor, and Mrs. Dwight Sweat serves as the reservations chairman. The debutantes, as tradition dictates, will be presented in formal white gowns with elbow-length gloves and carry a dozen long-stemmed roses. Marshals will be attired in black-tie, and those presenting the debutantes in white tie and tails with gloves.

The holiday weekend festivities will begin with an afternoon reception on Nov. 29 in the Spanish Lounge at The Cloister on Sea Island. The reception, hosted by the Cotillion Board of Directors and the Debutante Advisory Board, honors the debutantes, their mothers and the mothers of the marshals.

On Saturday evening, a black-tie reception hosted by the St. Simons Cotillion will honor the debutantes and marshals prior to the Plantation Ball. The ball will begin at 7 p.m. with the formal presentation of the 2019 Cotillion Debutante Club. Each debutante, escorted by a marshal, is announced by the grand marshal following a trumpet fanfare. She is then presented by her father or other family member and completes a traditional low curtsy to those attending the ball. The presentation concludes with a father-daughter waltz. A dinner dance follows the presentation. Mr. Richard Berlin Altman will serve as grand marshal of the ball.

Mrs. Brad Watkins, chairman, and Mrs. Stephen Barrett, vice chairman of St. Simons Cotillion, promise an evening from which many wonderful memories will be made.
