Years in the Golden Isles:

I moved in 1974 from Charlotte, N.C. 47 years total.

Merchant for the retail store The Market on Newcastle.

Favorite Landmark in the Golden Isles: The port in downtown Brunswick

Favorite things to do in your free time: Reading. Sitting down and reading is special to me. Running the store requires me to be up and going all of the time, so I cherish the time I can sit in a chair and read a book.

How would you describe the character of your store? It’s all the stuff I like. I am fortunate enough to put everything I like in the store. Everything, even the greeting cards I pick out. It’s fun for me. I think it shows because people come in and they have fun too.

What piqued your interest in retail gifts and goods shopping? I’ve done it all my life. I’ve bought stuff and sold stuff all my life. The decision to do a store was made for me. I go to market twice a year and as long as I continue to do the store, it’s going to be fun and wonderful. It all really has to be fun.

What is your favorite season to prepare your store for? Probably Christmas. It’s the one we think about the most. As soon as it’s over we’re starting preparations again. We’re always thinking about Christmas for the following year. I go to market in January and am already looking at stuff for next Christmas. I personally like Easter as well.
